Christian De Faria Christian de Faria – Executive Chairman- Africa

Christian De Faria, Executive Chairman - Africa is a French national with  over 30 years of rich industry experience garnered across multiple geographies, diverse sectors and organizations such as MTN, Telekom Malaysia, Disc Vision, Deutsche Telecom and Grundig.

Christian joined Airtel Africa in Sep 2013 as Regional CEO – Anglophone before taking full charge of the Africa operations from 1st January 2014.

Before joining Airtel, Christian had been with MTN for 7 years where he held senior leadership positions including Executive Vice President, responsible for the operations for West and Central Africa Region and later as the Senior Vice President - Commercial and Innovation, responsible for transformation of the Group Supply Chain function. His last position at MTN was the Group Commercial Officer, a role he played for 2 years until January 2013.

Before MTN, Christian held various roles in several other companies; President Director - PT Ecelcomindo, Indonesia, CEO Axiata(Telkom Malaysia), Managing Director - DiscVision GmbH Germany, Group Finance Director - Grundig UK, VP Financial Systems - Deutsche Telekom AG- Celcom, Malaysia, Managing Director- Grundig Malaysia Sdn BhD, Group Controller and Finance Director/Company Secretary/Deputy MD-  Grundig AG Germany.

Christian is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelors of Finance and Administration from University Toulouse, France.

Farhad Khan – Chief Commercial Officer Farhad Khan – Chief Commercial Officer

Mr. Farhad Khan joined as Chief Commercial Officer – Airtel Africa with effect from January 2015. Farhad will leverage his proven commercial experience in the telecommunications industry to refresh our Commercial Strategy for Africa, build a strong marketing team to drive a winning consumer value proposition, and re-wire our Go-To-Market processes to enable execution excellence around Voice, Data, Airtel Money and Airtel Business.

Farhad joined Airtel from the MTN Group. His most recent role was in MTN South Africa, where he held the position of Chief Sales & Distribution Officer since August 2013. He joined MTN in February 2003 as General Manager – Market Segment Strategy. In October 2005, he was appointed as the Marketing and Customer Relations Executive at MTN IranCell. In June 2009, he was appointed as CEO of MTN Zambia. In January 2012, he was appointed as the Executive – Enterprise Business at the MTN Group Office. Prior to MTN, Farhad worked for Accenture in the CHT (Communications and high tech) practice.

Farhad has a MBA from the University of Cape Town, and has completed the Chartered Marketer of South Africa (CMSA) program at Johannesburg University.

He is a South African National.

Olivier Pognon – Airtel Africa Chief Legal Officer

Olivier Pognon joined Airtel on 3 June 2014 as Chief Legal Officer for Africa, in charge of coordinating legal support to Africa HQ functions and overseeing the legal practice and processes across all 17 opcos. A corporate and finance lawyer by profession with 13 years professional experience, Olivier has worked with several international law firms based in Paris (France) between 2001 and 2007 and also for the French government finance development institution (Agence Francaise de Developpement) from 2008 to 2009.

Before joining Airtel, Olivier was Senior Legal Counsel at MTN Group from 2009 to 2014, based in Accra and Johannesburg and overseeing the legal and regulatory practice across 21 countries in Africa and Middle East.

Olivier has a Post graduate degree (DESS) in Project Finance and Structured Finance from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (2006 - Paris, France), a Post graduate degree (DESS) in business law from Paris V Malakoff University (1998 - France) and was admitted to the Paris Bar in 2000.

Olivier was born and raised in Cotonou, Benin and is also holder of a French passport.

Jaideep Paul – Chief Financial Officer Jaideep Paul – Chief Financial Officer

Jaideep Paul is the Chief Financial Officer, Airtel Africa since May 2014. Before taking up the Africa Chief Financial Officer role, he had worked at Airtel Nigeria for 3 and half years as the Nigeria Chief Financial Officer. He has a total work experience of 25 years having started his career at with Pricewaterhouse in 1989. Thereafter, he worked in Hindustan Zinc, HCL, Telstra V-Com, Caltex (A Chevron Texaco JV). He joined Bharti Airtel Delhi Circle in 2002, moved to Mumbai Circle as PFO in 2004, became Regional Controller - East in 2006, worked as CFO of Bharti Retail for 2 years (2008 and 2009), CFO of Fairtrade LLC Muscat for a short period of 8 months before joining Airtel Nigeria as CFO in September 2010.

Jaideep is a Commerce Graduate from Calcutta University and a Chartered Accountant from ICAI. He likes watching football especially FC Barcelona matches and travelling to new places with his family. He is married and has two sons.

Jaideep is an Indian national.

Raghunath Mandava Raghunath Mandava - Chief Operating Officer - Africa

Raghunath was Director – Customer Experience, Airtel India & South Asia before moving to Airtel Africa as the Chief Operating Officer of Airtel Africa with effect from April 1, 2016. He took charge as COO from July 1, 2016.

During his tenure as Director – Customer Experience, Raghu brought in new thinking and innovation, enabling Airtel India to take big leaps in the experience scores, while costs were reduced significantly. Previously, he has had successful stints in several roles such as Operations Director, CMO, CEO – Rajasthan, COO – Tamil Nadu (TN) etc. His stint in Rajasthan saw our RMS in that Circle, a 6-player market leap from 25 per cent to 42 per cent in 3 years.

Prior to his joining Airtel in 2003, Raghu worked in Hindustan Unilever in several Sales and Marketing roles. He holds a B.Tech in Electronics from IIT Kharagpur (1988 batch) and an MBA from IIM - Bangalore (1990 batch).

 Anupam Bhat – Director, Internal Assurance

Anupam has been with Bharti Airtel for more than 15 years in various roles in different locations. He currently heads the Internal Assurance function for Africa. He moved into the current role in September 2013.

For last almost four years he has been in various leadership roles in African operations. As CFO (Anglophone), he was instrumental in establishing Airtel finance processes and discipline in 9 countries, especially in the initial period after the acquisition of Zain operations in 2010. Prior to taking over the Internal Assurance function, he had a brief yet successful project role as Finance Director - Business Integration in charge of the Warid integration in Uganda.

His immediate previous roles in Bharti include : Chief Financial Officer – Bharti Infratel, India and Regional Controller (East) for Mobile Services in India and his experience covers all key verticals of Finance including RA, FR, BPA, Tax and Financial Systems.

Anupam is a graduate of the University of Kashmir and is also a Chartered Accountant.

He is an Indian national.

Daddy Mukadi- Chief Regulatory Officer Daddy Mukadi- Chief Regulatory Officer

Mr. Daddy Mukadi Bujitu joined as Chief Regulatory Officer – Airtel Africa with effect from the 5th of January 2015. He is in charge of crafting a long term Regulatory Strategy for Airtel Africa, as well as proactively build relationships with our key stakeholders, Business partners as well as Functional Leaders to seize innovative opportunities for competitive advantage.

Daddy joined Airtel from the Vodacom Group where he was the Executive Head of International Regulatory as well as the Executive Head of International Commercial Legal. Before joining the Vodacom Group, Daddy had been the Group Corporate Legal Counsel at Gateway Communications Group. He has also had successful career stints at Mkhabela Huntley Adekeye Inc., and at Communication Users Associations of South Africa. He holds a Masters of Law degree in Communications Law (LLM) and an Executive Development Diploma – both from the University of Witwatersrand - South Africa. Daddy also holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the University of Lubumbashi – DRC.

Daddy is a Congolese national.

 Razvan Ungureanu - Chief Technical Officer - Africa

Mr. Razvan Ungureanu joined as the Chief Technical Officer – Africa with effect from March 2016. He has been the Group Chief Technical Officer for Digicel – Caribbean & Central America since 2014.

Razvan started his telecoms career at the National Institute for Design in telecommunications  - TELEROM PROJECT S.A as a Senior Radio Communications Design Engineer in September 1992. He then moved to MOBIL ROM S.A (Orange Group -Romania) as Radio Optimization Expert Engineer in April 1997. He thereafter worked with Mobistar, Orange Group between  September1999  and June 2011 where he served in different capacities including; Ad Interim Wireless and Broadband Network Director, Multi Access Network Director and Telco Solutions and Performance Director. He later moved to Orange Dominicana where he worked as the Chief Technology Officer/ Chief Information Officer between July 2011 and May 2014 before moving to Digicel Group as the Group CTO/CIO for  Caribbean and Central America cluster.

He holds an Executive MBA from EM Lyon and Cranfield University, and a Bachelor’s in Degree in Electronics Engineering from the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Faculty, Bucharest, Romania;

 Roy Masamba – Chief Human Resources Officer

Mr. Roy Masamba started his career at British American Tobacco in Zimbabwe in 1992 where he served in several roles of increasing responsibility starting off in Production before moving to Human Resources where he served as Group Human Resources Director – Zimbabwe and thereafter as Human Resources and Administration Director at British American Tobacco Angola.

Roy started his telecoms career at the Zain Group in January 2006 as Group Human Resources Director Africa Operations based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He then moved to Nigeria as Chief Human Resources Officer before being transferred to Bahrain as Group Human Resources Director – Strategic Change Programs.

In December 2009 Roy joined Vodafone as Regional HR Executive Central Europe, Africa, Middle East & Asia based in London, UK. In May 2011 he was promoted to the position of Vice President HR – Verizon Vodafone Enterprise Service also based in London, UK. In November 2012 he was seconded to Safaricom Limited [an affiliate of Vodafone Group] as Director Resources [HR, Facilities, Fleet, Health and Safety], a role he held until accepting his appointment to join Airtel Africa.

He holds an MBA General Management from Cranfield School of Management. He also successfully completed the Advance Leadership Development Program from the London Business School. An Engineer by training Roy holds a BSc Hons, Electrical Engineering degree from University of Zimbabwe.
