Airtel Kenya and the Global Peace Foundation host 1,600 Students at National Innovation Boot Camp

Airtel Kenya and the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) are hosting the LEAP Hub Innovators Boot Camp dubbed ‘Raising Moral and Innovative Leaders for Economic Growth’ from 16th August – 17th August 2016.

The Boot Camp will expose up to sixty Leadership and Entrepreneurship (LEAP) Hubs Students from twelve schools in five counties to mentorship and constructive interaction and feedback aimed at nurturing their best ideas for investment opportunity. The boot camp features expert presentations on fundamental entrepreneurship skills including opportunity identification, business plan basics, and start-up funding.

The two-day boot camp was graced by Cabinet Secretary ICT Hon. Joe Mucheru who lauded the organizations involved in the program for their commitment in fostering the growth of entrepreneurs and new technology-based ventures through a process of education and sharing their experiences with youth.

Hon. Mucheru captivated and inspired the students with his narration of his own personal ascendance to the position of Cabinet Secretary from a little known village of Kamirithu in Limuru through hard work and determination.

Scheduled key speakers include Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi, the Global Peace Foundation Patron Dr. Manu Chandaria, Vice President, Education division Global Peace Foundation Dr. Tony Devine and Executive Director, Global Peace Foundation Kenya Daniel Juma.

Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi while speaking during the event said “We are committed to support and help our youth reach their full potential because we value the role that they play in development.  Through our Leadership and Entrepreneurship (LEAP) Hub program in partnership with Chandaria Foundation and Global Peace Foundation, we are providing avenues for young entrepreneurs to harness the power of the internet and digital tools for business innovation and personal development, building lifelong skills.”

The event brings together mentors from twelve different organizations which include Airtel Networks Kenya Ltd, Computer for Schools Kenya (CFSK), Google East Africa, Intelsoftplus, Cisco Systems, Oracle, Taxi Chap chap, Ihub, Nailab, M-Lab, Copy Cat and  E-Mobilis.

List of participating schools in the Boot Camp: Moi Forces Academy, Alliance High School, St. Mary's Ukwala Boys' High School, Mary Leakey Girls' High School, Mariakani Secondary School, Starehe Girls' Centre, Eastleigh High School, Kariobangi North Girls' Secondary School, Machakos School, Kaimosi Girls' High School, Precious Blood Girls' Riruta , Matuga Girls Secondary School.
