Airtel Sierra Leone Reaffirm its Commitment to Journalists through Awards

Airtel SL has reaffirmed its commitment to support journalists at their Triennial General Meeting Black Tie Dinner in Bo City by handing out trophy’s and cash prizes to deserving members of the fourth estate for Excellency in reporting in different categories. Scholarship grants were awarded to 3 members to pursue a doctorate degree in journalism from a recognized University in Sierra Leone.

 
The sponsorship deal also includes Scholarship packages to children of members of the Association in Primary, Secondary as well as University levels and recognizes the contribution made to the profession by veteran journalists by way of presenting them with a Life Time Achievement Awards.  
 
The President of the association, Kelvin Lewis has assured Airtel that benefactors will make the most out of it.  He applauded the Management of Airtel for such desired initiative in promoting excellence in journalism by giving them the opportunity to excel in their career.  The partnership he added was signed at last year’s AGM and Airtel has demonstrated that it keeps its promise.           The total cost of this support is USD 26,694    
 
The Acting Managing Director, Oladapo Olasope stated that the scholarship scheme is a very impressive initiative that will bring about a change in journalism in the country. He quoted Tom Stoppard who said, “I still believe that if your aim is to change the world, journalism is a more immediate short-term weapon”.
