Airtel joins the Government in “Keep the City Clean” campaign
  • Donates cleaning equipment to Kumbu Kumbu ward in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam, Tuesday 19th July 2016. Airtel Tanzania has today joined the Government efforts to support the “Keep the City Clean” campaign . With a population of over 5 million people, Dar es Salaam city struggles in maintaining and protecting the environment. It is with this observation that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania called upon all Tanzanians to come together and embrace change to keep the city clean.

 
Airtel has donated 15 dustbins worth three million Tanzanian shillings to the Kumbu Kumbu ward to facilitate the ease of waste collection and management. Speaking during the cleaning equipment handover , Airtel environmental Officer Ncheye Mazoya,  said “Airtel recognizes  the government’s effort in keeping the environment clean and safe,  we are happy to extend our support to the communities we do business in ,  by providing essential waste collection tools for  waste management.
 
“We believe the aid will promote a healthy environment and sensitize the Dar es salaam residents to keep their surroundings clean and help prevent epidemic diseases which have been a major challenge in many parts of the city. We call upon  Dar es salaam residents to build a culture of throwing wastes in designated areas to facilitate authorities work in waste management”. Added Mazoya
 
On his side, Magomeni Administrative Secretary, Fulgence Isakafu applauded Airtel for their valued contribution and support. He further said that, “The contribution delivered by Airtel  today complements  the Governments ongoing initiatives, which includes community participation in weekly environment cleanliness.  The general cleaning campaign is an ongoing exercise; we urge other stakeholders to play an active role in the support  of Keep the City Clean Campaign”.
