Airtel Uganda Extends Health Services to Kampala City

Airtel Uganda extends free Health Services to Kampala City

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programs Airtel Uganda the Smart Phone Network offered free health services to the residents of Kampala City and surrounding areas as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives in our pillar of Health. The Community Health Camp was held at St Joseph Mulago Community Center, Kalerwe.
In partnership with Huawei Technologies and the Hind’s Feet Project, a Non-Profit Organization that focuses on making health information accessible to all; we offered free medical services to approximately 2,800 people (women men and children) in an effort to improve their wellbeing and empower them with the basic health information and services they need to make appropriate health decisions.

The medical services offered included; Hepatitis B screening and shots, Dental, eye checkups and general medicine, Screening for HIV, diabetes, ulcers, blood pressure, syphilis, hepatitis B and malaria, antenatal checkups, nutrition, counseling and prayers. The health fair also included safe male circumcision as well as free cancer screening services.

Speaking during the health fare, Airtel Uganda Managing Director, Mr. Anwar said “I would like to appreciate all the participants who value health and have taken their time out to access the free services and health information. The medical doctors and volunteering partners who volunteered their services to be apart of the Health Camp are to be applauded for their service to the people and indeed to Uganda. This camp will go a long way in ensuring people access health information and thus make informed decision based on that. Airtel Uganda has partnered with several health institutions and other work partners such as Huawei Technologies that have supported the TeleHealth Initiative in which specialized medical information is being given to the medical doctors at the camp by a highly specialized team of doctors based in Kabale. We are striving to not only provide people with affordable and reliable telecommunications solutions, but also increase knowledge on general health and the use of preventive health services to help them live healthy lives. We have partnered to have these health camps in different parts of the country such as Lira, Kabale, Naguru, Buikwe, Arua and shall continue to reach out to other communities in Uganda throughout this year.” He added.

Also speaking at the health fair, Huawei Uganda Sales Manager Mr. Nilong said “Apart from providing the best ICT solutions to our customers, Huawei Technologies also enriches lives by giving back to communities where we operate and have been supportive of the TeleHealth aspect of the Health Camp today.”
This is the second time Airtel is holding a community health fair in 2016. In January this year, we held a community health fair at Ezuko Primary School in Kabale district.
