zambia – mngoza basic school

Mngoza Basic School is located in Petauke District in the Eastern province of Zambia. Although the area is under-developed, there is economic growth potential through commercial farming.  Most farmers in the area produce maize, cotton, sunflower, groundnut, and soya beans.

Built in 1967, Mngoza is a co-education school with 347 pupils, located 24 kilometers from the main town.  It has a single stream of classes from grade one to seven.

The school has no power supply while the infrastructure needs extensive refurbishment.
The school lacks learning and teaching materials such as books for teachers and pupils, storage lockers, cabinets, classroom desks and tables and chairs for teachers.

There are five teaching staff including the head teacher and the nearest school is ten kilometers away.  Mngoza School is fairly accessible via a gravel road from the main town of Petauke.
