What is Internet.org?

Internet.org is a Facebook-led initiative with the goal of making affordable Internet access available to the two thirds of the world who are not yet connected and to bring the same opportunities to everyone that the connected third of the world has today.
Facebook's Internet.org app provides free basic services enabling people to browse selected content in several categories.  The Internet.org app initially launched to Airtel customers in Zambia.


How does it work?

Airtel customers can access the services via the Internet.org app and www.internet.org. Normal data charges apply when browsing outside the set of free basic services.

1. How do I access the Internet.org app?
People in Kenya with an Airtel SIM card can access these services by visiting www.internet.org or by downloading the Internet.org app for Android from the Play Store.

2. Do I need to subscribe to this offer?
There are no subscriptions or entry fees required. To access the offer, go to www.internet.org or download the Android app from the Google Play Store.

3. Do I need to buy a data bundle to access the Internet.org app?
Access to the Internet.org app is free.  Through Internet.org, you can access a version of Facebook that’s free of data charges, as well as other services such as health, news, and sports info.

4. How does one know that they are using free Internet.org or when charges apply?
On the Internet.org website or app, there will be a banner that says “Free Data” to indicate that the content is not incurring data charges. If you click on a link that redirects to content outside the Internet.org services, you will be shown the message “You are leaving internet.org. Standard data charges apply.” If you choose to press “Continue,” you will be charged according to your Airtel Kenya data tariff.

5.Can subscribers on Blackberry access the free basic services on Internet.org?
Subscribers using a BlackBerry handset will not be able to access this offer.
